VE Day Artwork

Year 1 spent the afternoon learning about VE Day and why it’s such an important moment in history. We looked closely at the painting VE Day Celebrations, 1995 by Judy Joel and used our observation skills to answer questions and think carefully about what we could see.

We then talked about what makes a great street party scene and made a list of things to include in our own artwork: blue, white and red colours, Union Jacks, balloons, bunting, and people of all ages coming together to celebrate.

The children got to work on their own VE Day street party pictures, showing fantastic creativity and attention to detail. At the end of the lesson, everyone had the chance to walk around the classroom and admire each other’s work—it was a lovely way to celebrate the brilliant effort and imagination on show. Well done, everyone!

Here is just a very small selection of the artwork.
