Survival Night
As part of out DT topic 'Shelters' and English work on the book 'Kensuke's Kingdom' this term, we designed, built and slept in our very own survival shelters in the school hall! What an exciting night we had! We worked in groups to design our shelters and then (with the help of some very much appreciated adults) we used bamboo canes and rope to build a secure structure that could be covered in tarpaulin for us to sleep in to survive the night. In the evening, we did some orienteering in the dark with torches and toasted marshmallows over a firepit to make s'mores - yummy! We then settled down to read the final chapter of our class book with hot chocolates and teddies! It really was a fantastic night and we are so pleased with how Year 5 worked together, persevered and challenged themselves throughout the day and night - there were some clear future Bear Grylls among us! We were also very impressed with how all of the children settled down to sleep and didn't really stir again until 6am in the morning! Year 5 - you have made us very proud! Thank you also to all of the adults who gave up their own time to help us with our little adventure - it really made the experience a success!
