Year 1 News
Year 1 had a fun filled trip to Legoland this week. We visited mini land to look at 'mini' London and identify some of the famous landmarks we had been been learning about in our current topic 'Bright Lights Big City'. We also took part in the workshop 'Around the World in 80 bricks' where we used lego to build characteristics and landmarks of each of the continents. We even had time to watch the pirate show at lunchtime and go on the submarine ride! We saw lots of fish and sharks!

This week at school has been a busy but fun filled week celebrating Science week. The children took part in a range of activities all science related!
To begin the week, each class took part in a science workshop. Year 1 learnt all about sound vibrations. The children then took part in an inter house science competition. Each house had to try and build the tallest tower using only paper straws, masking tape, card or blue tack.
On Wednesday Year 1 visited the Lookout Centre in Bracknell where the children learnt all about light and sound during a workshop and then had the opportunity to explore all the different science zones. The children really enjoyed the hands on and practical activities - the wind machine was a big hit with many children!
On Thursday Key Stage 1 took part in a science carousel, Year 1 children had the opportunity to take part in science experiments in both Foundation and Year 2. They learnt all about reflective clothing and germs.
To round the week off we celebrated science week by coming into school dressed as a scientist or wearing red to support Red Nose day. Please check out our photo gallery to see pictures from the week.
World Book day
To celebrate World Book day each class decorated their door linked to a book. In Year One we used inspiration from 'The Enchanted Wood' by Enid Blyton. It linked perfectly to our topic 'The Enchanted Woodland' this half term!
Each class also had the opportunity to take part in a dance and drama workshop which was linked to the book 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Children learnt a sequence of moves and then put these all together to music. The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop - there are a lot of budding actors, actresses and dancers in Year One!

What a fantastic day! Year One dressed up as Superheroes to celebrate all the fantastic learning they had done during their Superhero topic. Children created Superhero masks earlier in the topic and were able to wear them. We practised our Superhero moves and posing and went on a villain hunt around the school to catch them all! We put our Superhero skills to the test and helped free fellow Superheroes who had been frozen in ice! We also created our own Superhero shields and made mini lollipop stick Superheroes.
