  • “Rock Your Socks” for World Down Syndrome Day!

    Today, the children and staff at Downsway are supporting World Down Syndrome day by wearing odd socks.

    “Lots of Socks” is a simple, yet powerful campaign that encourages people to wear mismatched socks on WDSD to represent a celebration of differences. The initiative is intended to spark conversations about diversity, uniqueness and inclusion.

  • Science Week Round- Up!

    What a great week of additional science activities at Downsway for Science week 2019!  Please have a look at the selection of photos.

    Events included;

    • Sublime science workshops for every class
    • Year 5 science visit to Denefield
    • Science Inter-house competitions – more information below
    • Year 1 trip to Lookout Discovery centre
    • Science session carousel where each class received two session sessions led by different teachers within the school
    • Scientist dress up

    Science Inter-house competition results – winning house:

    • Foundation Stage: Furthest travelled vehicle = Warbreck
    • Year 1 & 2: Tallest tower  = Year 1 & Year 2 Cotswold
    • Year 3 & 4: Furthest paper plane = Year 3 Longleat & Year 4 Warbreck
    • Year 5 & 6: Parachute most effective for protecting an egg fall! = Year 5 & Year 6 Longleat

    A big thank you to Mr Edwards, our Science Leader for organising Science week and to all the staff for making the week engaging and fun for all the children at Downsway.

  • Quiz raised £183.13

    Thank you to all the families who supported our recent Friends of Downsway quiz.  We hope you had fun and got lots of the questions right!  Thank you to FoD for organising another great event.  The total amount raised was £183.13.

  • Children's Disco - £400.56 raised

    Thank you to everyone who supported the children's discos which were organised by Friends of Downsway.  The discos raised £400.56 which is a great amount of money.  A BIG thank you to all the parents who stayed to help at them as without your support, these events could not run.

    Children in Years 4 and 5 have taken part in a Holi festival workshop today and they have enjoyed learning about the Indian festive in a creative way through drama and dance.

  • Science Week has started at Downsway!

    British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths and at Downsway we are celebrating it throughout this week. 

    We have started today with each class having a science themed workshop led by Sublime, a company which runs science workshops for primary aged children. 

    We have lots more planned so please do ask your child about it!

  • World Book Day – Part 2 (Friday)

    All classes received a dance and drama workshop linked to a book on Friday as part of our World Book day celebrations.  The children thoroughly enjoyed these sessions. Thank you to Miss Rackley and Miss Gale for organising World Book day.

  • World Book Day 2019

    Today we are celebrating World Book day!  So far today we have had;

    - a World Book day themed assembly.

    - a numbered read where the 23 adults in school today were allocated a number and all the children in the whole school were also allocated a number between 1-23. We then matched up the numbers and spent time together looking at a selection of books.

    - each classroom decorate their door linked to a book.  Please see attached photos of their doors currently!

    During this morning, Mr Scott will be taking a group of children from each class to cook some pancakes, which will then be shared with the rest of the children.
