  • Y5 & Y6 Rounders & Cricket Competition

    Today, 30 children from Years 5 & 6 took part in a rounders and cricket competition hosted by Denefield School. 

    The two Downsway rounders teams were strong and came 1st and 3rd out of five teams and the two Downsway cricket teams improved as they games progressed.  The children were great role models for the school and showed great team work.  Well done all! 

    Thank you to Mr Bolton, Mr Grover and Mrs Burnham for taking the children to this event.

  • James Carter - two opportunities for parents/carers to be involved!

    Writer in Residence - James Carter

    As we continue to work with James Carter this term, there are two opportunities for parents/carers to be involved:

     

    After School Family Fun Session for Years 2 to 6 in the School Hall - Tuesday 4th June 2019, 3.15-4.15 pm

    Ever met an alien? James Carter is probably the closest you’ll ever get! Come and join our Patron of Writing/madcap poet-in-residence for a fun-filled, zany and interactive hour of music and poems aplenty!  If your child is in Years 2 to 6, and they have a younger sibling at Downsway, they can attend too.  Please email the office if you and your children are planning to attend this session so we have an idea of numbers. Thank you.

     

    Performance Poetry Assembly – Tuesday 9th July 2019

    10.40 – 11 am

    FS/Year 1/Year 2 performance poetry assembly – parents/carers with children in Foundation stage, Years 1 & 2 are invited to attend.  Assembly will last approximately 20 minutes.

    11.10 – 11.40 am

    Years 3 to 6 performance poetry assembly – parents/carers with children in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 are invited to attend.  Assembly will last approximately 30 minutes.

  • Year 4 Ufton Court Residential

    The Year 4 children have returned from Ufton Court after three great days away where they have enjoyed learning about the Vikings in a fun and hands-on way.  Thank you very much to Miss King, Mr Bolton, Mrs Green and Mrs Scott for accompanying the children during the residential stay.

    Thank you to everyone who sent in filled bags for the 'Bag 2 School' collection.  The total weight was 162kg, which resulted in £64.80 being raised for Downsway Primary School.

  • Year 6 trip - Oxford University Museum of Natural History

    As part of the Year 6 curriculum theme of Darwin’s Delights, Year 6 visited the Oxford University Museum of Natural History on Friday 17th May. During the day they took part in a workshop on evolution and adaptation, and had an opportunity to look round some of the galleries.

    The spelling strategy for next week is 'Speedy Spelling'.

    The children have one minute to write their spelling word as many times as they can.  One box per word.
